Online Seminar - Data Archiving and Information Retention Using Symantec (KVS) Enterprise Vault in a Windows Environment

This seminar, led by world renowned author and public speaker on Microsoft technologies, Rand Morimoto, talks about how a 3rd party product like Symantec’s (KVS) Enterprise Vault technology is helping organizations with their data archiving and information retention policies and practices, and instantaneous search and extraction of information across the enterprise.

If you’re like most organizations, your users save documents and send and receive email messages every day, and information continues to pile up on your servers. Storage requirements continue to grow creating what appears to be an endless cycle of data management challenges. Some organizations have resorted to setting storage quotas and limiting mailbox sizes, however recent laws and regulations (like Sarbanes-Oxley, SEC 17a-3/-4, FDA 21CFR Part 11) mandate that certain information needs to be stored for 3-years, 7-years, 10-years, or even longer. Additionally, on a day to day basis, legal departments want historical information on communications sent and received between certain individuals that can take days to extract the data off servers and from tapes that can now be done literally in seconds with the right tool and technology in place.

Rand covers in this session:

  • what Enterprise Vault v6 provides for data archiving and retention for data sets like filesystem data, Microsoft Exchange email message data, SharePoint portal data, instant messaging (IM) communications, data stored in PST archive files, and the like
  • what it takes to install and configure EV in a small, medium, and large environment
  • what other organizations are doing with EV beyond basic archiving and retention, such as addressing legal department request for message or content search
  • how EV helps to automatically identify key “protected” or “regulated” content that needs to be stored and managed (and the extraction and removal of non-protected and non-regulated content to clear up disk space)
  • what the interface looks like both for administrators as well as compliance / legal department users to search and extract information simply and easily
  • what is involved in managing, administering, and maintaining an add-in system of this type for network administrators

You should download and print the slide deck that will be used throughout this session
