On February
27, 2008, Microsoft will be
launching the release of their
Windows Server 2008, the next
generation of Windows Server
operating system.
In this free seminar, led by
bestselling author, Rand
Morimoto, Rand highlighted the
Top 10 feature area of Windows
2008 that early adopters have
found to be the best
technologies integrated in the
new operating system. Rand’s
company, Convergent Computing
has already helped several
companies install hundreds of
Windows 2008 servers in
production environments over the
past 3-years and has already
received recognition from
Microsoft as having implemented
more Windows 2008 beta servers
in production environments than
any other organization in the
world.
Rand presents and demonstrates
core Windows 2008 technologies
and solutions such as:
* Windows 2008 Read-only
Domain Controllers (RODC), a
significant Active Directory
security component for global
organizations
* Windows Server Core, a
GUI-less version of Windows 2008
intended for utility servers
that do not need or require the
overhead of the traditional
Windows graphical user interface
* Terminal Services 2008, a
series of enhancements in
thin-client Terminal Services
that provides a Web-client,
remote application launch, and
policy-based application
management
* Network Policy Server (NPS),
that centralizes corporate
policies as a foundation for
roles-based, application-based,
and site locality-based policy
management
* Etc, etc, etc.
Additionally, Rand highlighted:
* Security enhancements
built-in to Windows 2008 that
further improve the ability of
organizations to implement and
maintain a secure environment
* Fault tolerance and
recoverability enhancements that
allow Windows 2008 servers to
minimize operational downtime
* Recommendations on the best
way to implement and optimize
Windows 2003 today in
anticipation of a future
migration to Windows Server
2008.
